EU tackles aircraft CO2 emissions

Airlines operating in the EU should pay for any increase in their carbon emissions above current levels, the European Commission has proposed.

Commissionars said the aviation industry should make a 'fair contribution' to the fight of climate change. The EU plans to integrate EU internal flights into the bloc's emission trading scheme from 2011. The aviation industry generally welcomed the plan.
