I am new here and I hope to get an honest answer from you out there (male or female):

About me: I am 21 and just over 1.60m. It has always been a dream for me to start a career in aviation. How does the fact that I am female affect the chances of getting into the cockpit of an airliner?

Are there any countries/airlines with better or worse chances to become an airline pilot? Before I spend a fortune on flight training, I would like to know what my chances are.

Some airlines have set a height requirement to be eligible as pilot or cadet. What for?

Thank you all for your advice.

G'day...

That I think depends largely on the airline you are applying with. I think, you should be fine in western Europe. There are rumours that some airlines even have 'woman pilot quotas', meaning they target to have a certain percentage of female pilots. In that case, you would probably even have an advantage over your male colleagues!

In any middle eastern country you would very likely find closed doors with most airlines when applying as a female pilot. Southern european contries might also be a bit conservative to female applicants.

Generally I do not see a problem for you in giving it a try. You will always find guys looking a bit suspiciously at you, but I guess you will get used to that. The majority of people will treat you like any other pilot.

And: Height requirements can have different reasons. It might be simply technically related (type of aircraft)...
