If I'm informed correctly, windshield heating makes the windshield more resistant to bird strikes due to the higher flexibility of a heated windshield when hit by e.g. a bird.

In our company we only switch the windshield heating on when starting our descend and switch it off after landing. For take-off we usually leave it off unless we expect icing conditions during climbout.

That would imply that a windshield which has been exposed to normal ground temperatures does not need to be heated for increased impact resistance, therefore it can be selected off during the take-off.

How is this issue addressed in your company SOPs?

We have pretty much the same SOP in place. Its also switched on before or during descend to keep it free from condensation on the inside. Happens sometims when descending into layers of very moist air after a long cruise.

Our AFM just says 'as required' for take-off. Before starting descend it says 'ON'. What it doesn't say is why... But thats not what the AFM is for I guess...
