Alitalia is burried in deeper mud than it ever was. The rescue consortium has fully withdrawn its offer to save Alitalia yesterday. Alitalia has now ten days to come up with a plan. Alitalia has been over and over again close to bankruptcy and it somehow always managed to keep the aircraft in the air. This time it will be not as simple. Unions, Management, Banks...basically everyone is to blame. It is quite clear that AZ cannot continue the way they did business so far. Only the lean and profitable business sections will survive. A shame that the parties involved were unable to agree to a slimmer Alitalia. The grounding, if it eventually comes, will have far reaching consequences for the employees and I feel so sorry for all of those innocent employees. They will be soon without butter and bread. The AZ story is not much different of other stories (Sabena, Swissair etc..). The only piece of advice (or hope) I can give here: There will be a life after Alitalia. Leaving a golden cage is not easy. But once you've left it, you feel free. |

Alitalia has only 7-10 days left...here a news report from Reuters: ROME (Reuters): Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC will ground Alitalia (AZPIa.MI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) flights in 7-10 days from next Monday if the special administrator does not present a new rescue plan to them that day, a source at ENAC said on Friday. full story here I wouldn't be surprised if they pull out another rescue plan, it would be plan no: xxx  Goo luck to ya all @AZ. |

Apparently there is now new hope in the case as Mr Berlusconis right-hand man has met again with the CAI consortium whose offer was withdrawn. It seems like unions and other involved parties have softened-up a bit and have nor ruled out adjustments to their positions. Whether this will be enough to avoid the grounding is to be seen. In the mean time some airline such as Easyjet and Lufthansa had shown interest in taking over some of the routes. More news to come!!! |

Looks like the worst is over. Parts of the unions now finally agreed to the new rescue plan. That was a close call! |
