My question is regarding the 737 type rating;
I have come to across roads, and would like to get into the airlines
but at the moment, (Africa) it doesn't seem like they (airlines) are
hiring or recruiting.
Now, would it be easier for me to pay (personnally) for a B737-200
type rating to get a foot into the airline door?
And, the airline ONLY need to pay for a difference course.
Or, would it be a waste of money and to get the airlines to pay
for any ratings.
(provided one gets the jobs, first....)

To be honest with you, I would get the airlines to pay for it
Although I have not the experience in such a case (my airline paid for the rating), I think its a shame if the airline lets their pilots pay for a rating. easy to say if you have thousands of hours and been flying for an airline...But I think such amount of money can be invested in a better way. If the airline gives a job guarantee, it looks a bit different. Then it can be looked at as an investment.
What do you think will a 737-200 rating cost?
Cheers

As I have no JAA, I have looked in the US:
The cost ranges from $14,000 - $7,000.
Yes, it is a huge investment to make, that could be used
in better places, but if the airlines aren't hiring,
then, maybe make one's own luck??
it is a difficult, but having an airline pay for the rating
would be best.

Much better to pay bit more and get your self a proper TR like A320 or B737NG with the MCC for 14,500 Euro @ CAE - Emirates Aviation Collage in Dubai
