Hello everyone, my names Keith I'm 42 years young, I've decided on a career change and a pilot is what I've always wanted to be. I'm happy to chat with anyone about anything aviation and I would like to know what peoples opinions are about me starting my CPL at 42 and my chances of finding a job. I'm based in Australia. |

Good on you, Keith! Most people would probably raise their eyebrows about your plans, but I think you will not regret it, no matter what. It's probably unrealistic to plan for a career as airline pilot, but hey, aviation does not only consist of airline pilots, right? And I think if you are interested in other flying jobs, I am confident that you have a chance on the market. It often depends as well who you know and how good your connections are. What kind of flying are you interested in? Cheers, Stefan flightwork.com - International Pilot Network |

Hi Stefan thanks for the positive reply. It's funny I've never really wanted to be a big jet bus driver but I do admire them, I've been unlucky and had a job that made me work huge hours and for good pay but it's not made me happy, I'm just emigrating to Australia with my family and I believe that there are a lot of charter/sightseeing types of jobs all around Aus. I like the thought of flying a cessna 210 or such like as a bush pilot and im blessed to have a wife who supports my decision 100%. I am really looking forward to the next chapter in my life. Keith |

All the best to you Keith! Did you emigrate to Australia in order to do your training and then work there? |

Hi Julien, I lived in Australia for a few years and worked in the waste industry came back to England to run a waste plant, my parents have passed away and I've finally got the money to be a pilot. Even if we weren't just going back to Aus because I love the place I would be going back there to fly, it is a country that needs pilots due to its size and remoteness and I think it will give an old guy like me more opportunity than I ever will get in Europe or North America.
