Hi there.
Even though I´ve searched a lot and read even more, there are still some questions I haven´t managed to find any good (real person/pilot) answers to, but only "informational" text about my questions, which isn´t the same thing.
Firstly, I don´t really dream about a career working for a big airline company, but my question(s) will be questions any "real" pilot can answer hopefully as you all have gone through the education.
I currently hold an NPPL. Mind you, I know it doesn´t even compare to having a ATPL. icon_smile.gif But flying, even though only the smallest types of planes, has set something off inside of me, wanting to have more.
As said, I´m not dreaming about working for a big airline company, but rather (some day... many days from now most likely) I would love to fly for a living, as in e.g. a smaller single engine 10-15 seater plane for tourists or whatever.
And for this you need (as far as I´ve understood) a Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
So after some back ground about my future dream, my question is simply if anybody can give me a good idea about how hard it actually is to get this type of license? That is with everything needed, i.e. to first obtain a PPL etc etc. And if an esitmated price it would cost could be given, it would be even better. icon_smile.gif
Many thanks and I´m greatful for any replies that can be helpful.

Hi and welcome to the forums,

It is not any harder to get a CPL than it is to get a PPL, MPL or any other licence. It's mostly a matter of money, time and persistence. That is if you are generally suitable to be a pilot, i.e. normal understanding of technical subjects, able to learn & study, teamplayer, and so forth...

To get a frozen ATPL (ATPL theory course) is also possible and if you have managed to get a CPL I do not see any restriction why you should have difficulties to get a frozen ATPL. It's not rocket science, although the subjects get a bit more complex. But again, you will need money, time and some determination to do it.

Unfreezing the ATPL is relatively easy. You need to do an ATPL Skill Test which does not differ much from any other recurrent training.

Even though you prefer to work on a smaller aircraft and probably in a smaller company, I would recommend you to get a (frozen) ATPL. It will give you more options to choose from and helps you on the job search. It's like in any other businesses, the more qualifications, knowledge and experience you have, the higher your chances to get that job.

Probably not a good idea is if yousign up for an MPL course. Those courses are aimed for pilots who want to only fly in a multi-crew environment.

To get a CPL is not very expensive. However, this alone will not give you much options though. To be able to fly according IFR, you would need an Instrument Rating. To be able to fly on multi-engine aircraft, you would need to do your (CPL) training on a multi-engine aircraft...

Instructor ratings are also very useful. Consider this as an additional asset and qualification. And on top of it, it is a very rewarding kind of work for most pilots.

Did my reply answer your questions?

Hi.
Thank you for your reply.
Your information/opinions are definately valueble to me as I don´t really know any "real" pilots to ask who have gone through the proper training.
Just as you say, to get the license is mostly a matter of money, time, persistence (and ability of course), thus if I sign up for the course it will probably take me quite a while to obtain the license (if I actually manage/complete the course). But I do know that I some day want to change from an office job and aim at flying for a living. I obtained my NPPL within a few months with almost the minimum required hours, so hopefully it wouldn´t be too hard (though of course a lot of work and dedication) to continue to get the PPL and so forth, but you never know.
Again, thanks for your reply which was helpful. icon_smile.gif
